Our mission is to create a network of socially motivated scholars age 3 to 14 that take care of themselves, their community, and the world.
About Us
Heartwise Scholars was founded by Dr. Crystal Goins in her pursuit of the best educational fit for her five children, ages 3 to 10. After experiencing Montessori, public, private, and homeschool co-ops, she discovered that a microschool model provided the most balanced and responsive approach to learning.
Heartwise is grounded in intentional relationships, relevant experiences, and research-based practices. We nurture the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally—so students return home more confident, connected, and joyful.
With three unique learning options across multiple locations, each Heartwise environment is thoughtfully designed to be inclusive and developmentally appropriate for the scholars it serves.
A Faith-Based Community.
After our first year, Heartwise has grown into a community that is both faith-based and inclusive. Founded by Dr. Crystal Goins and her family on Christian values, the school is rooted in principles that not only align with research-based educational practices but are also deeply biblical.
At Heartwise, we uphold five core values: authority, authenticity, accountability, acculturation, and access. These values guide how we build community, foster growth, and support each scholar—spiritually, socially, and academically.
Because many of our families and staff share Christian beliefs, we welcome prayer, scripture, and optional Bible study as meaningful components of our school culture. While Christ-centered, Heartwise remains a respectful and inclusive space for all families who value intentional, whole-child learning.
A Deeper Look At Our Core Values.
Heartwise Scholars has five core values:
Authority, Authenticity, Accountability, Acculturation, and Access.
We believe adults have the authority to lead, teach, coach, encourage, and discipline learners.
We believe that all children should feel authentic to themselves in this space—no need to code-switch to belong. We accept you as you are.
We believe in accountability among teachers, students, and parents. We welcome feedback within the learning process. Mistakes make us stronger. Correction is refinement. Respect and responsibility are pillars of our code of conduct. Holding ourselves accountable for all this learning is essential.
We believe that the diverse cultures and backgrounds of our partners shape our community. Instead of asking our students and families to assimilate to one set of cultural norms, we believe in acculturation. As our school community grows in its relationships with one another, we will naturally develop a set of shared beliefs and traditions that honor both our partners and the school community as a whole.
Lastly, we believe in access. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, access to high-quality resources and innovations has become prevalent everywhere. We want to give the next generation permission to lean into this access to create more innovations and job solutions. The more savvy our scholars become with recent technologies and innovations, the better their chances are of living a balanced, high-quality life in their adult future. We want that healthy work-life balance for all our scholars.
